live view settings are a joke with almost any slr, and if this is how you plan on using a slr (using the lcd as a viewfinder) i suggest taking the new one back as well and just buying a high end point and shoot. Not saying they can't be used but don't think of them as primary way to use the camera.

live view is a new feature for slrs because they don't work the way a point and shoot does. when you look through the viewfinder you are looking directly through the lens. to add live view they have to add extra sensors etc, and with any slr you are going to lose functions like focusing, speed, light reading, etc.

I played with it on the XSI and realized it is just a toy and i will use it from time to time if i really need to.

but yeah, do not buy a slr based on the idea that it has live view and you will use the viewfinder like a "normal" camera. That's just not the way slrs work.

Plus, i suggest even returning that one to target and shopping online. You'll find a much better price at online camera stores like adorama or even amazon. I am guessing that xsi was around 750+tax at target for the body and a lens, when on adorama i got the body + kit lens + 50-250 IS for 850...

Chris was good at the around the corner Pics..

I still have the k-mount lenses for my old pentax SLR and if there were adapters or they could be used i would look at the better camera.

I think I'll do ok for what I want to do with this camera. I'll ween over from live view to the information screen. Then once I've learned the settings I probably keep the LCD flipped so I won't even see/use it and use the view finder as intended. I'm in the learning curve and that flipable screen seems a good way for me to be on my way to using an SLR how it's intended.

Tom-
Your old k lenses will work on the new Pentax digital K's. They designed it for that very purpose, but I'm not sure about the autofocus part. Plus the digital K's use sensor shift for their stabilization, so all lenses are stabilized.

Oh, thanks for asking... Nikon

When I was shooting professionally I used a D2X

and a D100 modified to shoot infrared

Before I had it modified I used the D100 for portraits:

Sorry I don't have any pictures of cars

Wow! Very nice.
You spent some time behind the viewfinder and given the results, made a decent buck at it.

My camera is an old Sears branded Ricoh slr that I bought when Sears was getting away from camera sales(yes,it's a film camera) back in the late 80s.I'll be getting a digital camera soon only because I can get one for free through a GM sponsored rewards program. It'll be a point and shoot type because I don't have enough points for an slr style camera.

I graduated from the point and shoot last night to a Nikon D40. Looking forward to learning how to use it.

My mom is looking at maybe getting a D40 today, or else she might buy a D5000 and I'll trade her, and pay the difference.... So....I might be getting a new camera today....

(I'd really like a D90, but those are a little too much still for me...)
