1 Month Old and Dead Battery?

Is it common for HHR batteries to die after a month? I went to get in my car this morning and all I get is "clickclickclickclick". The lights were not on all night because they automatically go off, as does the dome light. I have not sat in the car and listened to the radio without it running for more than 5 minutes. I live in FL so it wasn't cold last night.

Any ideas what would kill the battery so quick? It's going back to the dealer tomorrow. I'd call them today but not even the sales dept is open on Sunday. I am highly disappointed in my car and am afraid to drive to drive it but I need to get groceries today

I can relate to your issue. Hizzin' sat at the dealership for 8 months before I adopted it in early August. Around Labor Day I had 2 hard starts( one of which I called On Star to verify the DIC warnings for bad tire pressure monitors and check engine warnings), and a week later nothing. Fortunately, my neighbor is a mechanic at my dealership. I dragged him over and he witnessed this, then helped me jump it. The next day he took it in and it PASSED the battery test! He knew better, so he left the headlights on for 5 minutes and retested - 2 dead cells. Since the new battery, no issues, and I even had to jump my wife's Liberty last week when it ate it's battery (like clockwork - every Jeep she's had needed a battery every 4 years no matter what - but I digress).

Make sure they give you a new one.

I had to call GM Roadside Assistance when my battery died... got that click click click sound, but my lights continued to work. I accidentally hit the light control from 'auto' to 'on', and I didn't realise it until it was too late... the battery died whithin an hour!. This was last week.

My battery died at about 21,000 miles , On a sunday morning. I bought a new and better battery that day ($120.00). On monday i was at the dealership with the dead battery and the reciet for the new one, After about a month i got a check from GM for the full amount. So it's sunday, give it a shot. Just about any after market battery is going to be better than the one they give you.

Also if yours sits a lot, it is recommended to put a battery tender on it (under the hood connections)..
Just because even with everything turned OFF there is still a parasitic drain from the clock, calender (if you have) & other stuff..

My car gets driven every day and I just drove it yesterday with no problems. I know the headlights were off because I walk in front of my car after I park it just to make sure Now it may have sat on lot for awhile before I bought it but I'm not sure.

I did have something happen to me that might be causing a slow drain. I was coming out of the store talking on my cell when suddenly the car picked up the bluetooth connection. I was about 10 feet from the car. The car was locked and not running. I know the bluetooth picked it up because my phone showed the connection. Is that normal for the bluetooth to do that, be always on and could that drain the battery?

OK, I understand.. Still wouldn't hurt to throw a battery tender on to 'top it off' so to speak......

The owners manual says to disconnect the battery, if the car is not going to be driven for 25 days or more. I guess they only expect the battery to last 25 days or so with the parasitic drains etc. Seems to me it would be easier to put a small intelligent charger on it, that would float the battery, at least that would be my approach.

I'm thinking they mean the car is a month old, not that it was parked for a month.

Still running the stock battery here.

Stock battery for me so far. I cant tell you how many times I've forgotten to turn off the interior lights. But even after leaving them on all night it still starts up perfectly the next morning!
