You need to get a scanner and read the codes every time the CEL lights up to make sure they are the same codes. Of course, when you turn the engine off the codes disappear. Ignore the ones that are "history".
OBD2 codes are numbers assigned to individual tests. When a test fails the CEL is illuminated and the test number is posted. Each test is run after a certain criteria is satisfied, some must fail twice in a drive cycle , some must fail on consecutive drive cycles before they cause the CEL. That is why they don't pop up right away
You should check the wires in the area marked 1 in this pic, they sometimes get frayed and cause the troubles you describe.
