2.2 engine removal

Hi, this is my first posting and am looking for you guys or girls input. I have a 2007 with a 2.2 that has over 200,000 miles, on oil leaks and no oil burning but does have a burnt valve in #4 cyl. It is going to cost around $600 for a new head, timing chain gaskets. ect. with me doing the labor. I am thinking that for a few hundred more I could rebuild the complete engine. My problem is that I have no way or room to lift the body and pull the subframe. So my question is can the engine be pulled and reinstalled from the top and if so what kind of problems might run into aside from normal issues?
Thanks
Catdog

anything is possible, but dropping the subframe is the way to go, from what I have seen under my 07, through the top would be to high for my engine hoist

There is very little room in the engine bay, less than an inch to the opposite frame rail, so I doubt you would be able to separate it from the tranny while its in there. I havent tried though, so let us know if it works out.

Thanks for the input, I will keep you posted. I have pulled a lot of engines in my time but they have always been from the top. I will have to give this some thought.
