2006 & 2007 2.2 engine swapping ??

Hello . New to this site and need some help.
I have a 2006 HHR with the 2.2 Ecotec and a auto trans with.
My wife was driving down a country road and ran over a rock and knocked the oil pan out. She continued to drive it a few miles and melted the engine.
I have found a low mile side damaged complete 2007 HHR with the 2.2 and auto trans at our local vehicle disposal auction. I need to know if the 2007 2.2 HHR engine will swap right in to my 2006 ?
Any help quickly would be appreciated .

Thnaks Andy

No. The 2007 has a bunch of electronics that the 2006 does not.

However a junkyard used engine should go for around $7-8 hundred. Installation is around $1200.

to the forum Andy!

Don nailed it, due to the numerous changes made between the 2006 and 2007 model years, '06 models should be considered as "stand alones" when it comes to swapping engines.

Expand your search and you should be able to turn up a good 2006 engine.

Unfortunately no, even the blocks changed between model years, so you'd expend more time and effort than it would be worth.

GM did a major revision to the L61 engines before the 2007 model year began.

Thanks for the help. I have checked with my local GM dealer here. He priced me a crate engine for $3400 less install. I guess Ill go that route and put it in myself. I checked out the wreckers, all up and down here in Northern Alberta , and no one has one for a 2006.... One guy did tell me that the 06 Pontiac Pursuit and the 06 G5 is the same engine .... might as well go with a crate engine ...

If you want to experiment. The ECM is different, software anyway. The 2007 has camshaft position sensor(s) maybe could just delete. The 2006 has a different ignition control system (that's tied to the camshaft position sensors) might be able to just swap. The O2 sensors may be different.

Oddly, the junkyard engine I had installed in my 2008 was from a 2006 GM vehicle. "manifold drilled" seems to make a difference. I think that all of the holes for sensors are there on 2006 engines just no hardware in them.

So, my answer is really "don't know, probably not".

Yes, along with Cobalt, ION and whatever other European GM models might be around on the same platform. The engine is maybe the most produced in the world, darn near every GM 4 cylinder since they bought Saab.
