2006 Electrical Problems

I have a 2006 2.4L HHR. About a year ago while driving the power door locks started unlocking and locking by themselves when this happened the car would not shift gears while driving. Turned off car and reset it and no more problems. About 2 months ago while driving it started happening again this time in the DIC power steering appeared and it was hard to steer the speedometer did not move from 0 tachometer worked but car did not shift during this nothing helped would come and go, at the same time I had been charging my phone in the power outlet for the back seat. after unplugging it the problem went away. Then last Thursday while driving the problem started again (nothing plugged into any outlets) cant figure out what is causing it. But can't drive as there is no speedometer and car wont shift you also hear noise coming from the shifter when stepping on brakes.

Anyone have any idea's? have checked all of the fuses.

Finally found a couple of other posts with same issue. The Battery is about 2-3 years old car has 320k miles on her. will see if we can take to autozone and get codes.

Have them load test the battery while you're there, too. These buggies are pretty sensitive to low voltage.

You also may want to check to make sure the top and bottom half of the underhood fusebox are tight to one another. And check your grounds, donbrew has posted the ground locations in the "how-to" forum here.

I just had my SECOND battery replaced under Walmart 1 year warranty.

I suspect the halves of the fuse box have come apart.

Thank you I printed out the grounds because we thought that might be it as the problem at one time was the outlet in the console so he wants to check that ground as well.

Also, check the connection of the large red wire to the fuse box.

I don't know. Maybe a dead battery?

Yes, a sure sign of battery failure, unfortunately

Yep, what donbrew said, dead battery. If you are going to jump start it, be very careful to follow the instructions in the owners manual. There is a link in Don's signature if you don't have one.

Take it to your local auto parts store and get it load tested. If that turns out to NOT be the problem, come back and give us the recent history of the vehicle (any work that's been done, accident, anything, even if you think it's unrelated).

Come back and tell us what the fix turns out to be also.

Oh, and to the forum!!
