2006 hhr problems

Hello, the problem started when new sway bar bushings and links were installed. we noticed an oil leak from the oil cooler,we belive it to be the o-rings on the cooler. So after looking at the cooler sort of moving the harness around that rums in front of the cooler,we start the car and the power steering message is displayed, the security light is on,the abs light is on and the dash gauges dont work. we tryed reseting by removing the battery,no luck. codes are for cam sensors, which were there before hand, and a new code for loss of connection with tranmission module.Tryed to drive it but trans wont shift and gauges dont work.car was fine before hand.checked all fuses. anybody have a clue? engine is a 2.4,automatic.156000 miles.

Sounds like you have a "problem" wire harness that you disturbed while moving the "oil" cooler lines around. Inspect the wire harness' in the areas that you disturbed and see if any are not connected well, show rubbing or bare wires, etc.

Or if, as you say, had the codes for the cam sensors prior to your repair work, maybe they finally gave in. But check their wiring also.

Thanks,I dont see how the cam sensors could relate to the power steering and dash gauges not working.

Remember, all of these problems occured at the same time, dash gauges failure, transmission wont shift, power steering message and as far as the messages,it was flashing ALL the messages one after another, low coolant, door ajar, power steering, and so on.

Is there a know problem for the wire harness in the area around the oil cooler?
I know GM did away with the cooler in the later model year.

Also since the oil cooler is leaking is there a mod to just remove it?

btw the clunking is gone now thanks to new bushings,so part one of the repair went well.

There is not a known problem of the wiring harness you are talking about. It sounds like you have created one on your car. Check that area to make sure all connections are good. Plugins, connections, grounds etc.

As far as the oil cooler. Not sure about a way to eliminate it. Might need to just repair the oil leak instead.

problem fixed

well the problem was the transmission control module died.a new battery,a new TCM with programing and 347.00 later it's fixed! Keep in mind the 347.00 price is because I get parts and labor at cost, beacuse I work with so many in the automotive area around here.

problem solved

Yes the oil leak was repaired. Two small o-rings between the oil cooler and the block. Not all 2.4 have this cooler as GM phased it out after a short run. I am told the o-rings are a pain to change because of the location of the bolts that hold it to the block. So all repairs done, shes leak free,no more clunks. All thats left is the cam sensors.I plan on doing those after thanksgiving.
