2008 HHR dors won't lock/unlock with fobs or switches

I've read through a number of posts and at one point I think I had found something that looked promising but I can't find that (or those) thread(s) now. Anyhow, the key fobs will work to remote start and arm/disarm the alarm but won't lock or unlock the doors.

I believe that the remote start was factory installed but not certain, we are second owners but first owner won't communicate with us.

The only way we can unlock the car is through the drivers door. We then have to roll a window down or reach to physically pull the rods up (or push down to lock) any of the doors. Yes, all four doors have this issue.

I realize I may have to take this to a dealership but wanted to reach out here first to see if anyone had any ideas I could present to them (or, better yet, try myself). I was wondering specifically if the lock actuator failed on the drivers door, would that cause the fobs AND the switches not to work to lock/unlock the other doors as well (is it a main switch that the other doors power through)?

Any advise/thoughts are appreciated and will be tried as we can (cheapest/quickest/easiest first).

Have you checked door lock fuse (#26) located in passenger compartment right side of the console
And welcome to the site.

It could be the fob has a dying battery sometimes one feature will work but mot the lock unlock.
Try cleaning the contacts inside the fob

Doubt that it's a dying fob battery or bad fob because the thread starter says it doesn't lock or unlock with the switches either. I'd check fuse #26 as stated. Next thing in that link is the RCDLR but, from what I've seen in my experience with 3 HHRs, it's rare that they go out.

My apologies, I should have stated that I have visually inspected all of the fuses that I could find that may possibly be the correct fuse as I couldn't be certain which one it was. I also checked any fuses that I couldn't easily identify as definitely belonging to something else.

I will look again when I get home tonight at fuse 26 specifically. The fuse box I looked through though was under the hood. I'll look around where you indicated for another fuse box as well.

Thank you for the welcome (and the suggestion).

Welcome!
One more!

Is your fob an official GM part?

Have you read and understand your Owners Manual? You can get one by following the link in my sig.

Remote start won't work if the door locks don't work.

What about the lock switches on the front doors?

What about the child locks on the rear doors?

When my locks did this similar symptoms last year I replaced the fob keypad and it fixed my problem hence my earlier suggestion to clean the fob contacts

Thank you. After finding the fuse box where you indicatedit would be (I had checked all of the fuses under the hood previously), I sawthat fuse 26 was bad. As I don't have a sunroof, I used the 15 amp fuse fromslot 20 and it worked for the few times I tested it that night. I went to showmy wife the next morning and get my kudos and the locks/fobs weren't working again. I checked thefuse and it was blown! I've now bought some more 15 amp fuses and put new fusesin both 20 and 26 and verified the locks/fobs work again but I'm concerned thatthere may be a short somewhere that caused the fuse to blow so quickly after having replaced it. Thoughts?

Time to trace back some wires , and look for shorts, ( I prefer briefs but that's just me)
Let's see now has there been any damage to the doors or the wires to the doors?
Has there been a problem with water getting into the doors or the passengers foot well?
Check the ground wires under the dash, are there any breaks in the wires from the fuse panel?

My wife just called to say that she was able to unlock the doors with the fob once and now it sounds like it's blown again. I'll see about tracing wires when I get home, but I don't know where to start tracing from or anything. It may be time to call in an electrician. No damage or water spills that I'm aware of. Thanks again for the speedy response.
