My wife drove the car to work on Wednesday, with no issues. After work, the lights and horn were strong — but the engine wouldn't turn. (No typical rattling solenoid sound, like when you have a weak battery either.)

I tried the remote start and that didn't work, though the door locks did. I also noted that there was a "low fuel" warning, despite having been just gassed up. The info button said "600km range." Missing from the info display were the oil life (which had been 25%) and the trip meters, which were showing blank.

The check engine icon was also on.

My friend's OBD reader got a "cannot link " message x3 tries.

It got towed to the Chev dealer in Chilliwack, BC, Canada and there's sort of good news: the contacts to the computer were corroded. They cleaned them up at diagnosis time, so the fix was in the $100 range.

Not bad, as I was dreaming of dead modules or worse... but why the corrosion? 'No electrical grease at the assembly line?
