2009 HHR LS 2.2 crank no start

Hello first time posting but have read many topics on here.

I just replaced the head, timing chain, and water pump. It cranks but will not start. Any ideas? Gas rail has pressure and everything seems plugged in

Timing could be off. What year and trim level HHR, there have been a few rebuilt heads installed from a 2.4 onto a 2.2, or vice-verse.

Check the camshaft orientation, here read this assembly tutorial for the VVT timing marks

Thanks for the tutorial Oldblue. It is the same in the Haynes manual. Followed the book during install. So not sure what happened.

If everything is plugged in, re-time it. If it still doesn't start, perform a compression test. You may have received a 2.4 head.

Casting numbers matched on the old and new heads. I guess I will be opening it up again and checking the timing.

I don't see mention of checking the ignition system for fire. At the sparkplugs.

Camshaft notches for the cam phasers

Note the notches for the pins to line up the VVT phasers

Note the phaser timing marks 2 o’clock on the intake and 10 o’clock on the exhaust You might be 180 degrees out.

Rotate the crankshaft clockwise only , until you feel or hear air exiting #1 cylinder, ensure the piston come to TDC , check the timing mark on the harmonic balancer, there is a notch on the engine side it must line up with the mark on the front cover

See the raised line just above and to the right of the oil pump spring housing , just below the 10 KW marking

The cylinder head itself is the same between 2.2 and 2.4. What is different is the camshafts. Some cylinder head rebuilding shops don't seem to know. There were at least 2 cases reported here, I think it was last year.

But Firemangeorge is correct, start with the basics.
