So, I guess you are saying the flex pipe is cracked?

New flex pipe part is around $60. Some are made so clamps work, or when you have it out and marked the alignment with a sharpie if you cut it yourself and take it to a welder. Welders around here will do it for a couple of dollars, free if they like you and feel like taking a break.

Or, you can get a new downpipe with a cat for less than $200 on eBay. 5 rusted bolts and a O2 sensor.

BTW, the common reason for it to crack is a bad motor mount. look through the slot on the passenger side wheel well, if you can't see an easily reachable bolt head yours is bad.

 

Yes, I am sure Now it is about 90% improved Acceleration is almost the same, and the car will go over 60 mph but still can hear it get loud under the hood when I get on it. And still getting the lean and knock code after driving for a while, So the leak is still there but not sucking in as much air, I guess.

Wondering how the slip on pipe would work. After cutting off the flex pipe, could I move the exhaust pipe enough to slide it on, or would I have to remove the entire down pipe and cat? Concerned about the bolts being rusted and frozen on.

By the way, it gets pretty hot I checked with my old Radio Shack heat tester, and clocked the flange at 1800 degrees

Catalytic converters run at least 1800F. That is why you shouldn't park in high grass, "Fahrenheit 451" and all that.
it's only 5 bolts to R&R, pretty easy to do with jackstands or ramps, you can get to the manifold bolts from the top or bottom with a long extension.
Frozen bolts are easy to replace. Use lots of your favorite penetrating oil.
You might be able to install a slip on piece in situ, with a lot of cursing and busted knuckles.

 

Thanks. Looks like I might need to removed entire PE just to slip or weld the piece in. But how good is the cat that comes with the $150 part. My shop said that their cost fir the part is $400 without labor.

And how long should it take? They quoted me $800 which seems high

 

That’s very high, like 4 hours at $100.00 per hour.

But searching the internet many of the cat and pipes cost over $1,000 But some on Amazon are $150 That is a huge gap I always thought cats were close to $1,000 alone So how could some be so cheap?

And according to one site labor should be $78

My biggest worry is cracking those bolts, and possibly breaking them

 

Aren’t NY and Calif. the only 2 states where you have to buy the expensive cat replacement ?
CARB certified or whatever ?

 

I put that cat I posted a link to on Oldblue it went another 200,000 miles. The cat was a magnaflow, a very well made down pipe. At that price you can change it 5 times for the expensive one.

 

That's right, NY is a CARB state. The repair part isn't legal either, probably can't even ship tp NY. Stuck with expensive stuff, thanks to tree huggers.
