60MPH Shimmy or Vibration

Hi Guys,
I am new to the forum. Let me start off by saying I know the issue of the 60MPH shimmy or vibration has been extensively posted on. I am having this issue with my 2006 HHR LT. I have read all the postings but I cannot find anyone who has diagnosed the problem and posted it on the forum. I read all of SCOOT's postings and I am having the exact same issues he had. I have recently had new pads and rotors installed as well as lower control arms and bushings replaced as well as struts. Obviously this is getting expensive. This seems to be a mysterious problem with the HHR. Can anyone assist or point me in the right direction on a resolution? Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome!

I didn't read scoots posts, but that sounds like an unbalanced tire. Either the tire is missing wheel weights, or its worn funny and needs replacement

If its worn funny, usually something is worn in the suspension too

Welcome - and badassbowtie's suggestions are good ones.

You can also swap the tires front to rear to see if the problem disappears - inspect the tires for out-of-round or bad wear like bab said.

Other than that, if you have been dealing with it for some time, a good wheel alignment shop should be able to do a thorough inspection of the front end looking for anything out of specs.

If it gets worse when you turn the steering wheel in any direction, are Hub bearings.

60 MPH is a pretty typical speed for a bent rim or thrown weight to show itself. I am assUme ing that you mean is starts around 60 then seems to get better at around 68.

Hasn't been diagnosed much on account of that's not really a "car" problem, but a "tire/wheel/tire store" problem that most of us old geeks take for granted.

If you are looking for "could be" then CVs, hub/bearings (front & rear), struts, tar on a wheel or 2.

Air needed in tires was something one repairman told me.

Do not know if this is the correct diagnosis for your car, but we haven't had shimming at the speed since we filled up the tires sufficiently. Hope that helps a bit.

Hood advise, however this thread is from September 2013, no follow up from the OP . But I’m leaving it open for future readers.
