Abs light

Hi guys, it's been awhile since I talked to you all, got a problem n trust no one else! Got a 2010 HHR LT, the ABS light has been coming on but doesn't stay on. I would turn the car off n restart it n it goes off. Now the traction control light is coming on with it but doesn't stay on. No brake light with it. It seems to be braking just fine. They tires need rotating though, this I know. I don't have the money to have it put on a machine, any suggestions? Thanks!

It has something to do with the wheel speed sensors, which are part of the hubs. If you can't get somebody to read ABS code while the light is on the only solution is to throw new parts at it.

Some parts stores use the good reader that can read the ABS, a good reader runs around $100.

If you can get the codes post them here; there will be a 2 digit hex number after the code that is important.

for that much I might as well take it to a dealership, the biggest reason I don't like to go there is they say we need work that isn't necessary like we need an entire new axle, lol jk I'll search around n see what help I can get, thanks alot!

Check at your local parts palace, and check for loose harness at all four wheel hubs.

I don't see any reference made to taking it to a dealership. Or to an axle. Maybe there is something else that needs attention; if you know more than they do fix it yourself; I do.

I was just kidding about the axel, I use to work on my own cars back in the day but I don't know anything about the newer electronic systems so I need help with that. Maybe enough to keep from being ripped off but that's it. I really miss being under the hood! I finally got ahold of the man that had worked on it before n he's going to come look at it. It definitely needs help, the driver's side door handle busted off days after it was fixed from not opening from the outside. All the speakers are silent, nothing but the tweeter works. Can't tell which speaker is down since the system detects trouble n shuts them all down. Now this! It seems to be falling apart around us! SMH thanks for your advice I appreciate it!

Nothing to be skeered of all of those scary electronics are there to tell you what is wrong not to be fixed. Mechanics is mechanics. The problem is that technicians don't have any idea how to use logic, they just read the title of a OBD test and replace the part named instead of fixing the mechanical problem.

Nope. That's not the way the system works. The stock speakers can go out one at a time. There is nothing that will "shut them all down" unless you have a problem with the radio itself.

It is possible if one actually shorts that the system will shut them down, But that rarely happens they just all die. The fact that the tweeters do work means that a shutdown is NOT the problem., just bad speakers.

My point exactly! I took it to a shop in my neighborhood one time to see what it would cost to fix a little fuel leak. He came back to tell me the under carriage was so badly rusted that the entire fuel line had to be replaced, I seen fire, it's a wonder I didn't blow the whole place up I was so mad! There wasn't any rust under there except for maybe around some bolts n it was a tiny hole in the fuel line about four inches from the gas tank that took about $15 to repair. They see an old couple coming in with money signs dancing around our heads n get fooled when I do all the talking n the money signs fade away but I got to be really careful. That car is my pride n joy so I won't let just anyone touch it. I wish I did know how to fix it all myself!
