Question Aftermarket FOB issue

Hello, I'm recently new here, I tried searching for an answer but haven't gotten anywhere searching on here. I have a 2008 HHR Panel version. It does have the Info and reset buttons on the wheel. I found instructions on how to program a new FOB. The original FOB is broken. The logic board inside it is nonfunctional even with a new battery. I haven't been successful getting the new FOB to sync despite all the online Google uploads. Something is missing there somewhere. Does anyone know if it's REQUIRED to go to a dealer or not? The reason I ask is because I just don't know if it's worth the money since it has 437615 miles on it. Stock motor and tranny I might add. :)

Many thanks, Mike G.

Some shops may be able to reflash it with the correct program in their scan tool

SOME locksmiths are competent with fobs. If you can find one with a good reputation in this department, you could try buying a new one from them, but I would only do it with a guaranty that it will work. If it does, your old fob will prolly work too.
