ambient light sensor
ambient light sensor
I have an unusual problem with my HHR lighting. First let me say that when it gets dark the lights go on, no problem with that. My problem is when it is sunny out the lights stay on when driving. If it is cloudy but completely daylight the lights are not on as it should be. If it is an ambient light sensor problem then I will just replace it but I fear it may be a problem with the BCM. I checked All Data and IATN and found no tsb's or any mention of this problem. Am I the only one?

I have no way of knowing anything about you.
The DRL is supposed to be always on that is: lo beams/no tail lights.
Headlights is: lo beams with tail lights.
When the sensor fails the default is headlights..
If the sensor is bad there should be a code in memory B2645 02 or B2645 05., it would not cause a Check Engine Light.

Headlights or DRLs. I just have not heard of many failing, and there are DTC associated with it, if you have a very good code reader.
Not very easily.

I start up in the garage and the headlights turn on. I back out into daylight and they stay on unless I turn them off. This also happens at other places, not just in the garage. Sometimes works correctly, sometimes not.
If they turn on, but the tail lights do not, then that is DRLs, functioning properly. See what don means by we don't know you, is that you may have just got this '07. You may be used to an '06, which doesn't use headlights for DRLs.
That being said, I read a post from another member, who got to the sensor. He couldn't remember for sure, but said he may have removed the glovebox, and scraped his arms a bit getting to it from there.

Depending on the year, model and transmission, there are slight differences in the way the headlight/DRL's (Daytime Running Lamps) work.
Maybe fill in that info on your car.
You can read the full explanation in your Owners Manual. If you don't have one there is a link to all the Owners manuals in Donbrews signature above.
Fwiw. Based on your short answer to your problem, to me it sounds like your's may be functioning as GM designed it. You may just be unaware how it's supposed to work.
