Definately. I'm with Lucky. If your trying to power your cell phone, just tap into the 12V through a standard Car Charger. You can even hard wire it in as well, instead of taking up one of your Lighter Sockets.

I would not do this any other way.

5V is easily obtained with a simple 3 pin regulator off any 12V circuit. I would never in a million years attempt to tap 5V from any pin going back to the ECM.

Solution was right in front of my EYES!

A RADIO normally has lots of voltages and reserve power, so close to the dash storage box too. Found my radio supplied 5VDC and it didn’t charge my cell phone; found 8VDC, it didn’t work either, but 8.5VDC did work. AND the radio & CD still works.

Turns out the Specifications on the Cell phone's AC power adapter lies. Yes, it is “rated” 5VDC only after first supplying 9VDC to the phone, there after the voltage fluctuates. Turns out this AC adapter is smart.
