Anyone have

Start car - All gauges work, except temp gauge. AC compressor not kicking in. Drove car around 10 min. Come back to the office, gauge kicks on. AC is working too. Anyone? 08 2.4 auto 28880 miles. The gremlins have something new to mess with that wont be detectible to the dealers.

Outside temp? Maybe the sensor in the bumper because unplugged?

Derp, I'm dumb.

Don, you most likely need a new thermostat.

The thermostat also has the thermistor in it? They are not separate units?

NOT something like this?

Check the wiring to the sensor, it may be bad or just loose wires.

This is the sensor that outputs the temp. A thermostat would not fix the output issue.

So since it's got 6 60,000 B2B it's covered. I will have to let it fail first, the dealer wont do anything until it breaks.

Thermostat, not temp sensor. It is one of those "magic", (computer related) items. Also just for kicks check you coolant fluid level, that is a likely, and cheaper alternative. You do need to check the coolant level in modern cars more often than you used to on account of evaporation of new formulation antifreeze, thanks EPA.
These are the symptoms of coolant level/recirc because if there is no fluid covering the temp sensor, then there is no temp! That is why this solution does not seem to make sense.
