auto shifter assembly removal

i bought a new shifter assembly with the leather boot but i cant find a detailed 'how-to'... attempted it today and couldnt get it out! got the trim off and everytthing, took out the nuts at the bottom but couldnt get the cable off the assembly nor could i get the plug harness on the side of the assembly off either! not enough room to get my hands in there. Also, how the heck do you get the nuts back on if the bolt slide DOWN ?? cant thread it on anymore...so i put it all back together half assed but cant get all the nuts back on
was a frustrating afternoon!

Thanks but thats not what I'm looking for...i find an instruction manual on TMWs website but its for manual not automatic, so it got me about half way then the wiring harnesses became different and other things and I couldn't continue. Anyone who switched from the plastic shifter to the leather boot shifter..how did you do it? What did you use as a guideline?

I'm thinking if you completely remove the shifter you will be able to turn it over and do your reassembly properly.

If you remove the side plastic panels you can insert a screwdriver thru the lower slot to hold the bolt up while threading on the nut.
The cable just pulls of the linkage, it is a tapered fit.
Hope this helps, it's the way I did it.

Ahh didnt know you had to take off the side panels as well...
And for the cable, for the life of me i couldn't find a way to get it off! There was a metal clip holding it down , took that off, then didnt know what to do from there since I tried pulling on it but I notice that it connects to the underneath of the assembly but i cant see where since I cant get the damn thing out of there to turn it around haha it was so frustrating, I was at it for like 2 hrs and gave up

There has been at least one discussion of this on this site. I know because I used it to fix my interlock solenoid.

But, now the problem is sifting through all of the threads on the issue started by all the users that would not search first. There are hundreds of them!

I messed with mine for over an hour then just jerked it with a thin screwdriver and it came right off. You'll wonder what all the fuss was once the cable pops off.
