x2 - yeah that was a couple of years ago in this forum somewhere.

Had a friends Volvo do the same thing years back - it's rare, but it does happen.

There was also a post about another window that blew out while they were driving - I could not find that posting either tho'.

If I remember right, it was a woman driver, and it happened not far from here in Canada.

Mine was sitting in the sun all day when I opened up the rear and closed it. Poof noise and the sound of little beads of glass. The sun roof exploded. Glass every where inside. $300 fixed my self. Then went out and purchased window vent shades. I leave my windows cracked for the heat and air pressure now. I was really upset when this happened. I only had 38,000 miles on the car.

Thermal shock I'm afraid, it will happen from time to time. If anyone remembers the 80's and the "glory days" of the hatchback, exploding rear windows were fairly common in winter months, big piece of glass, warm defroster grid....tiny shock of some kind....boom!..tinkle tinkle...ugh!

Nothing rare it happens to all car models from time to time.

Tempered safety glass will do this from time to time. Either that or someone was taking a head shot at you.....LOL!

The defrost will take a rear window if it has a small flaw and the conditions are right. The side windows can and will do this too.

Glass is funny. Tempered glass will shatter easy with temp changes if it has a flaw. But on the other hand I was walking past a Chevette that the spare tire in the back blew out and ripped the hatch open and blew the side window out of the frame but never broke any glass. It even bounced on the ground. I picked it up and put it in the cars since no one was around. I wonder what the owner thought when he or she came out?
