Banging under my feet?

Hi All,

New here, hoping to get some help for my "service techs" I apologize if this is a topic previously discussed, I am new to forums, and am very slow to navigate around.

I had a banging sound under my left foot. Took it in, they replaced a strut, then called me to say that wasn't the problem...the tech drove it and still heard the sound. They kept it a second day and called to say they found a brake line was loose and banging. (I am a girl, so "loose break lines" scare me!) Got it back and 2 days later is started banging under my right foot and more towards the center. I had to wait longer than 2 weeks to get back in since I need a loaner, not to mention everytime I go to this dealer, it is a 2 day event, so I refused to just drop it off yet again.

The noise sounds like a tennis ball banging around in an empty metal coffee can. That's the best way I can describe it. It happens at low speeds, my DH first heard it while turning left into our driveway. I get it at railroad tracks, and any little bumple in the road at lower speeds.

Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like it could be the intermediate shaft or maybe steering column. There is a service bulletin
for it.

Have you run down any enemies lately? Could be a survivor trying to get your attention

Is it happening during cold weather? I had a similar sound happen to my car, a clunk type sound you could hear and feel under the floorboard at low speeds hitting a slight bump or dip in the road, only when it is cold outside though. I had it in a couple times for it, the last time they found some bolts that were slightly loose, not sure if that was the problem but with winter coming I'm sure that I will be able to tell soon.

Thanks for the replies!

My DH had suspected it could possibly be the steering column, but of course coming from me, the service guy looked at me like I was drunk.

Ya never know about the enemies....

Nope, not just during cold weather, it started during the summer and got progressively worse.

I am going to insist on the steering column idea tomorrow when I take it in.

Thank you!!

Have them look at both of those 2labcrew. I had both of those replaced on mine.First the steering column ,then the shaft. Sounds like the shaft though. All is good for me now. Good Luck.

I did have a banging sound in my left front last year. They replaced the steering column and I haven't heard a sound since.
