BCM replacement?

I posted in another thread that I lost my interior lights on the waterfall, steering wheel controls, window controls and LED in ceiling. The only thing that does work is the IP, but does not dim with the dimmer, and the radio LCD seems to be OK. This all happened after I had to jump the car because of a dead battery. I unhooked the battery for about 1/2 hour when replacing it, so it should have reset whatever needs to be reset....
Still no lights.
Someone suggested that I may have to replace the BCM!
If I do replace it, I see that Rock Auto has it for $174. Do I need anything else, how difficult is the job, and does the dealer have to program it after it is installed?
Thanks in advance,
Eric

Check Ebay. and other online GM sources. I bet you can get one for less including shipping.
It is basically the passenger side fuse box. If you have good knees and back, no bifocal/progressive lenses and patience it should be a DIY.
I am not sure about TechII, but most likely.

HOWEVER, get a better opinion than "someone".

Anyone know if it needs to be programed?

I believe it would have to be programed. Most of the body controllers are the same and programed to the car so it knows what options to turn on or off like fog lamps, heated seats ect.

How about reflashing his current BCM - might that help? I believe it has helped a few people out with issues such as door locks etc..

I'd try the "lobotomy" route as an experiment, disconnect the NEGATIVE battery cable for a minimum of 30 minutes to reset/reboot the modules.

If a replacement BCM is required, it would need to be matched to the vehicle with a Tech II.

Yeah, he tried the 30 minute reset without success in essence when he replaced the battery, but he could try it again. This is an interesting one.

This is an interesting idea.... Is reflashing different than resetting? Also, if I go to the dealer and pay them to reflash, will that tell them is the BCM needs to be replaced?

Yes, it is different than rebooting/resetting.

Will a reflash on a bad BCM show that the BCM needs to be replaced?
