I have an odd issue which I can not find an answer to or even a similar situation.

I'm having a sunroof issue on my 06 HHR, which I was very close to fixing until it took a very odd turn.

It was working fine, and used very often, than it starting clicking as it opened than would not open at all. So I removed the glass and realized the "cross bar" was loose and movement on the tracks was uneven.

I tightened all the bolts and it ran smooth with no clicking but when in "vent mode" the drivers side wouldn't come up all the way leaving it crooked. Not a huge deal sense I usually prefer it all the way opened but I figure I would try the "reset" to see if that helped.

I pressed and held the vent open position for 5 seconds then released.

Now the control only partially works, drivers side control which retracts the glass doesn't work at all and the passenger side which just opens it to vent only works when pushing it back to open.

So now, its open in the vent position but crooked (drivers side is lower) and wont close, and the only button that works is the vent open button, since its already open it just clicks rapidly.

I checked the fuses, both inside and under the hood, both are good.

I just don't understand why one button doesn't work at all and the other only half works.

I just don't understand what the issue could be and would love some suggestions / insight.

Perhaps the switches can be opened up and the contacts could be cleaned.

 

check the switches , are they firmly connected any loose wires, bent pins?

 

Usually, clicking indicates a mechanic mis-match, like a gear jumped track.

UPDATE**

So I removed the headliner and with access to the sunroof motor, I removed it from the tracks.

With it removed I was able to push the sunroof closed manually.

While the motor was disconnected, I was able to play with the buttons.

I still have the same issue.

Basically I can only open the vent without the ability it close.

I replace the switch and still have the same issue. Only 1 out of the 4 positions work.
