blower issue

i recently replaced my blower resistor a few months back because i lost my fan. after replacing, it started right back up and i was good to go. new years day i got in my car and turned on the defroster because my windows had a nice layer of frost on it and came back out about 5 minutes later and nothing was different. i checked the vehicle temp and it was around 120, which should have been enough to defrost the window. i then noticed that the blower was not on when i had it set to high. i started switching between all fan speeds. i though it was the resistor again but unlike the first time, the highest speed was not working either. after a minute of changing fan speeds smoke started rising out of the vents which smelled like burnt electronics. i turned off the car and immediately got online to see if i could find something. at the time i couldnt find anything. an hour later i started up to see if smoke would come out again, but nothing did. now i still have no fan blowing. the air will come out when the vehicle is moving though.
any thoughts as to what this could be? i am way beyond warranty so taking it to a dealer will be my last resort.

The fuse is BCM3 but it sounds like the motor is shot if you smelled hot electrical. Was the vehicle kept outside, is water coming in under the butyl cover in front of the passenger compartment?

i still haven't got around to taking anything apart yet. late nights at the office coupled with early mornings leave almost no time to snoop around. but if the motor is a pretty unanimous agreement, then i guess its time to search for a replacement. thanks for the quick replies.

as for this, yes, my car is kept outside and this happened right after our last rainstorm which lasted almost a whole day.
