Does anyone have a step by step guide on how to remove and install the heater blower motor? Also, are they the same motors throughout the total year run of the cars? I have a 2007 HHR 2.2l 278k (very proud miles).

 

They are the same. There is a how to in the "how to" section of this forum. There are a bunch of vids on Youtube search "hhr blower".
Basically involves cutting the fan out of the housing with a knife and using an adapter that comes with the new part.

Removal Procedure

Important: Cut through the case as straight as possible because the motor cup must be reused. In order to prevent damage to the component, do not cut any deeper than necessary to remove the motor cup.

1. Remove the right sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement.
2. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement.
3. Disconnect the blower motor electrical connector.
4. Remove the lower blower motor cover retaining screws.
5. Remove the lower blower motor cover.
6. Remove the blower motor nuts.
7. Remove the blower motor and cup from the lower case by cutting through the case between the circular ribs around the motor with a sharp utility knife.
8. Release the blower motor retaining tab and remove the motor from the cup.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

1. Install the blower motor (1) into the motor cup (2) that was cut out of the lower case.
2. Install the blower motor nuts (3).Tighten:
   
   Tighten the nuts to 2.4 [n-m] (21 lb in).
   
   
   
3. Attach the service ring (4) to the motor cup (2) with the screws (5) included in the kit.Tighten:
   
   Tighten the screws to 1.8 [n-m] (15 lb in).
   
   
   
4. Install the blower motor and service ring into the HVAC module using the screws (5) included in the kit. Make certain the blower motor electrical connector is pointing rearward in the vehicle.Tighten:
   
   Tighten the screws to 1.8 [n-m] (15 lb in).
   
   
   
5. Install the lower blower motor cover.
6. Install the lower blower motor cover retaining screws.Tighten:
   
   Tighten the screws to 1.8 [n-m] (15 lb in).
   
   
   
7. Connect the blower motor electrical connector.
8. Install the I/P compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement.
9. Install the right sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement.

Is the procedure the same if I get the blower motor from a salvage hhr? Unfortunately there are several in the pull-a-parts near me and I can't afford new and labor on it at this time.

 

The procedure applies to all years and models

 

I'm not sure a blower motor from a salvage HHR would work.

Replacement blowers come with a ring that allows you to screw the new motor in the place where the old one was cut out.

A salvage HHR motor won't have that ring.

I don't know if you can buy the ring by itself.

Also, the cheapest replacement blower motor at Rock Auto is only $37.

I can see a salvage yard charging $20-$25 for the used one.

If you knew what you were looking for. I guess you could find one that has been replaced already in a junk yard.
