Someone backed into my driver side door years ago but I'd like to get it fixed. Any comments or tips on replacing the door? Does it have to come from the same year or will any year work? It's an 06.
There is also a dent on the passenger side, is it possible to pop it out?
I think 2006-2008 have different mounting holes for the cards. I would check into paintless dent repair, there is only one spot that looks iffy to me, not an expert.
I had a quote from a body shop after it happened ($1700!) for insurance and the gist of what they said is that hard creases and wrinkles cannot be popped out and still look original, not to mention the structural integrity might be comprised, it will still have lines and marks so it would take extra labor to fill, sand, and paint the cheapest option for them was to "replace and refinish". I will certainly take it to the PDR folks first to see what they say. I tried using a strong suction cup on the passenger side and that didn't work. One day some guy waved me down and told me he was just at the junk yard for parts for a car like mine and had taken off the door and that I should go pick it up... Shoulda coulda woulda!
the front door can be fixed pretty easy its beyond a dent pro guy as metal stretches and trying to put it back just makes a oil can as they call it , so its gonna need metal work mud work and prep for paint , as for the rear just change it very easy yes all years will fit as to shell but u may need to change the wiring as it does change a lot i have found , also color changes as to years ,gl ,,,,hhr
The 1700 is what they paid me.. I had a second shop take a look (so I wouldn't get ripped off by the insurance) and the quote was about the same but I was sitting with the insurance guy as he was putting in all the info and looking up parts ect. and he explained everything along the way. Normally insurance tries to pay out the least they can but the way the parts would be ordered, labor that had to be done and taxes for it all added up, and yes, the labor was the majority of the cost. The structural integrity wasn't about the car as a whole but in the event that if the door was hit again it would be more likely that the supports in the door to keep you safe in an accident would fail. I wish I could have just had them fix it when it happened but I other family matters that I needed the money for at that time. anywho thanks for the input!
