Brake lights don't work unless brake is pushed down hard

Hi everyone,

Just as the title says, my brake lights don't activate until the brake is pressed hard to the floor. They don't light up if I press light on the brake. I've already replaced the brake light switch lamp, as a mechanic buddy of mine suggested, but that didn't solve the issue. Any suggestions on what I can possibly do to fix this? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated in advance.

You got too many words in there. Did you replace the brake position sensor, on the brake pedal?

Is the Center High Mounted Stop Lamp working? Are the tail lights working?

The only thing that depends on the position of the pedal is the sensor.

Wait for RJ to answer in on this. I recall he had a lot of issues with his PPS(pedal position sensors) and bushings on the pedals. Pretty sure he has replaced those so he's got some experience.

OP's profile states that this is an 08. From what I can gather, 06-07 used 2 switches, and 08- on used a Brake Pedal Position Sensor. Seems like OP is saying he replaced the sensor, agree with don, too many words has confused the post.

The only thing I can think of, is that maybe the pedal is not engaged with the sensor. It's hard to explain, but you have to "clock" it as you install.

When I replaced mine, I engaged the fork with the pedal, then twisted the sensor to align it for mounting.
