Wow, so sorry to hear about your problems with your brakes, glad I live in FL.
I have a question, you stated that the Dealer cut and repaired your electrical wiring, why did you accept this instead of having them order a new line? That could have cause additional problems. That Dealer should be reported, I would think. Again sorry about your problems, I have not had any.

Well I finally picked up my HHR on Friday 2-23-07 and the dealership and General Motors said they fixed the problem. They now said that found that the connection to one of the brain box’s had a some what loose contact connection in the plug. All said and done after 17 days in the dealership this time my car was fixed again. Funny that my car had an extra 103 miles on the odometer then it did when I dropped it off. That not really being the problem but they did not replace the gas they burned, but they did insist that I fill up the loaner car before returning it.
Today is March 6 2007 and guess what the temperature outside here in Detroit is 13 degrees (F). The abs and brake warning light is on once again. I turned right around and headed to the dealership and dropped it off for the 4 th time
Again I will ask that any body that has had the low brake fluid abs light come on in cold temperatures
please call NHTA @888-327-4236
You might want to fill out the on-line form on their website. I had a fuel leakage problem with a Trailblazer and reported it on line. In just a day or two I had an Email from an investigator at NHTSA asking for more info and if I had any pictures. Photograph your dash with the lights on and document the dates and times it happens.

karen1953,
I really had no say in replacing the harness. GM seems to think that the repair was all they that was needed. Trust me I was not happy with this and I did not approve this repair. I have talked to the NHTSA and filed a complaint reporting my brake problems.

Did you file the complaint via their website or just a phone call?

update

Well nothing good to report as of yet. The lawyer has my case but the dealer has my car. It was dropped off at the dealership March 6,2007 and has been there since. No word from the dealership on what is even being done. You know what really sucks? Having to pay for something you do not have or better yet paying for them to drive my car, can't wait to see how many miles they put on it this time. Last service visit they put on over 100 miles.

I've had the same issue (low brake fluid message) when it is freaking cold outside. Never gave it a thought after that. It only happens when I first step on the brake to shift it into drive. No issues after the initial message.

My '06 is doing this too - I live in North Dakota and it's frequently below 0 here. When it's cold my BRAKE FLUID light comes on and it chimes when I first put my foot on the brake to shift out of park. It comes on again if I have to brake really hard while driving - but only when it's cold.

This may fix your problem. If you are under the warranty or have an extended service contract the repair should be covered.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
A customer may comment about a intermittent RED brake light coming on with a possible message on the Driver Information Center (DIC) displaying "low brake fluid". This condition is more likely to occur during cold weather and will be intermittent as the fluid is more viscous

Recommendation/Instructions:
Follow the diagnostics to check and make sure that the brake fluid is not low. If the brake fluid is NOT low then replace the brake Master Cylinder Brake Fluid Reservoir KIT (P/N below) as it has been modified to resolve this concern.

Automatic Transmission Should be MN5 Auto Transmission Master Cylinder Brake Fluid Reservoir KIT Part # 15939572

Manual Transmission Should be M86 5-Sp Manual Transmission Master Cylinder Brake Fluid Reservoir KIT Part # 15939485

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

Sorry, I know this is an old post, but I noticed today when I got in my car it said "Brake Fluid" and chimed. I looked, brake fluid was fine, and brakes worked. When I got home I played some more, and noticed it does it ONLY when I put my foot on the brake and push it all the way down BEFORE I start the car, and while the car is starting. If I don't have my foot on the brake, it doesn't do it. I was pushing the brake and leaning while the car was starting and buckling my seatbelt, so I was applying pressure, and I guess that's what triggered it.

Just thought I'd post too.
