Broken Ignition Coil Hex Bolt

The check engine light came on and it was my solenoids, so I replaced those. I was also advised that my spark plugs needed to be replaced so I ordered the correct parts and wanted to do it myself. I did them one at a time, got to the last ignition coil on the right and the hex bolt broke off while trying to unscrew it. This was the first time I’d done my own repair and I completely underestimated how hard it would be to pull the rest of the bolt out. I took some JB weld for auto and put the top half back on and let it sit and cure. However, I feel like that’s a temporary fix and although everything went back as it needed to and the car sounds fine, I am not experienced enough to know if it should be left. I called a few mechanics and they said they don’t do what I’m asking for, which I thought was strange because if anyone knows how to fix something like that, it would be an actual mechanic. Any advice?

If there is enough of the bolt sticking up you might be able to get a small vice grip on it. Other way is to drill the center of the screw and use an EZ-out.

This is one way. https://www.wikihow.com/Remove-a-Broken-Bolt

lots of other ways; try a search of Youtube.

I tried that method and the drill and the extractor set I bought did not work for it. It’s only the threaded part of the bolt that remained, and I’m wondering if the drill I had was not powerful enough. But since I’ve already put the pieces back together and secured the hex bolt with the JB Weld, you are confirming that I cannot leave the bolt like that correct?

As long as the coil isn't going anywhere you are probably OK. If you used the correct plugs you have 100,000 miles before you have to worry about it.

A machine shop could probably do it. just take the cam cover off.

Did you take a photo before repairing the bolt?
This would be helpful for proper advice.
