A/c
A/c
Hey all, just a quick question for you.
When I turn on my 08 HHR to cold inside circulation, it feels like the a/c is on. the a/c button isn't pushed, but the air is coming out super cold. My partner's 07 Torrent does this as well. Do any of you know if this is just a great perk, or a flaw where the a/c is really on? Here I am thinking I am not wasting gas because there is no way that the a/c is on, but I don't know for sure I guess.
Thank you in advance!

(Recirculate): Press this button to prevent outside air and odors from entering your vehicle or to help heat or cool the air inside your vehicle more quickly. An indicator light above the symbol will come on in this mode. The air conditioning compressor also comes on. This mode is not available for floor, defog and defrost modes. When the recirculation button is pressed, the recirculation indicator light will flash five times and outside air will be delivered. Operation in this mode during periods of high humidity and cool outside temperatures may result in increased window fogging. If window fogging is experienced, select the defrost mode.
Want to trick ECM to...
When I drive my 06 I want recirc.on to avoid others fumes. Can you trick the ECM and not have the A/C come on. This is a research goal of mine.
Second after you cycle the key off the Recirc is off on all GM. You have to manually turn it back on every Time... BAD - This is also a research goal of mine.
My Toyota recirc stays all the time. Very Good !
My Tahoe makes me mad after I cycle key off also. GM makes me mad @ times. If it's a module thing I don't know if I can correct this GM flaw.
Any HELP ?

Actually I believe it's programmed that way because it is always best to pull outside air in than try to cool the hot inside air at initial start-up. If it is 100º F outside and your vehicle is sitting in the sun with the windows up for a period of time the inside can be up to 135º F. Take a temp gage with you sometime and check it out for yourself. You'll be amazed how hot our interiors get.
That's not the answer I wanted. Coastal living is COOL. But GM must do this through the BCM or the ECM. Toyota does not do it. Not sure about other makers. My old Tundra Stayed right where you left it. My Camry does too.
Okay the question didn't really get answered, did it? When you hit the recirc button it is pretty much the same as hit the ac button correct? I've watched the ac compressor come on and cycle. so whats the point really of having it. Does it only turn the ac on when it is hot in the car?
ChevyMgr, I understand your reasoning for the system to come on drawing outside air rather than the interior hot air. But, the manual says..."For vehicles with remote start, the climate control system comes on and uses the prior temperature settings selected before you exited the vehicle."
The HHR definitely cools faster when on recirculation rather than outside air. According to the manual it if I leave it on recirc. when I shut the car off, it should come on recirc. when I remote start. Why does it switch back to outside air? Is this something that can be programmed to do what the manual says it should? Thanks in advance for any help.

I didn't even think to check the manual.
