Outside temperature was 101 turned on A/C to Max Cold and only hot air blew out. Turned temperature control dial down one
position and started blowing cold and then started blowing hot what is the issue.

The issue seems to be that you don't understand the temperature control knob. All the way counter clockwise (blue) is cold; some people (my wife) think straight up is normal position.

Wait a minute...........OP says the outside temp was 101 ???
Guessing this isn't a recent problem with his AC. I'll hold my thoughts until he returns with some more details.

 

I just replaced the control panel on mine for a similar problem. Below 85F the AC/heat worked perfect above 85F it would blow hot air when turned full cold and AC would not come on. If I turned up the knob 3 positions it would blow air at almost ambient temperature. I got the control panel from Ebay for $35 and put it in the dash. All is right with the world once again.
