Welcome to the site, your dealership isn't identifying the correct issue or you had a CEL and they just described it vaguely to you.

It's a very easy job with minimal tools!

Yes Oldblue. Now, whoever you talked to might be telling the truth , or they may be really trying to screw you over. I would think the latter. I would ask for actual trouble code numbers and post here again. Nearly every member here has performed that repair. Easy peasy. BUT, I do believe that if the actuators truly fail MECHANICALLY they can cause some serious issues, but that is a very rare occurrence.

Hi Ed, to the forums!!

I cannot recall anyone with the P0010/11/13/14(camshaft actuator) code(s) having a problem starting the vehicle. Please post up the actual codes here(not the descriptions, which can be misleading). We'll see if we can get you a proper diagnosis!!

This has nothing to do with recall campaigns, so I moved it.

It also has no information in it. What is supplied is erroneous B.S..

I suspect "dealer" in this case means the used car dealer that sold the car, NOT a GM Service Department.

I have not heard on this forum any discussion about failed "cam actuator" causing engine damage.

If the OP comes back perhaps he can supply a few more words.
