Cam Chain Jumped Time
Since it is not a typical wear issue like a timing belt would be it is hard to say if the new to her used engine will also have this issue.
I am in the process of replacing my timing chain. Since the car already has the new stye tensioner, I am going to reuse it. I found out it is fairly easy to reset it. Here's how:
1. remove the c clamp.
2. pull out the inner piston
3. While holding the fat part of the piston with one hand, use a #2 flat screwdriver to turn the back portion [there will be an obvious place to fit the driver] clockwise. The piston will lock in at the extreme turn point.
4. reassemble [be careful not to re-activate it]
Done. no special tools needed.
