Take the sensor to the O-ring store and match it up with a heat and oil resistant one.
Go to an auto parts store and ask to look at the part in the box.
Buy a new part and install it.

I was gonna try to find one at an auto parts store. I know hardware stores sell o-rings, but not sure they'd be heat and oil resistant.

Buna-N/nitrile is a typical heat and oil resistant material. Another is Viton/FKM. Another is FLM. Most in stores will probably be Buna-N.

Those are available at the local hardware store

Thanks for that information. Those look the same as the one that's on there and are available at the hardware store.

Camshaft sensors are dirt cheap new but tens of thousands of HHR owners have perfectly good used ones lying around because they pointlessly replaced them when it was a solenoid that was the problem.

Hello this is my first time here. I only recently ran into this website because i have been having issues with my HHR giving me a fault code for the camshaft position sensor. I have been been doing my due diligence to try and find the location for the sensor but have came up empty handed. I have seen the schematic for it being on the top right corner of the engine next to the fuel injectors but there is nothing there. I do see a spot for a screw to drive in and an opening but its not even remotely the right size for it to go in. I even went as far as taking off the starter in hopes that the sensor would be next to the crankshaft sensor but to no avail. I could really use some help with this problem and hope that someone does see this. My HHR is a 2006 with the 2.2L ecotec engine variant.

Hi Staqz, to the forums!

You're going to have to provide the actual codes. Many sensors have been unnecessarily replaced due to a misunderstanding of the description of the code.

Code may say camshaft position sensor, and that means it’s doing its job, the camshaft and crankshaft timing can be out due to a stretched timing chain.

You guys beat me to it. I was getting tired of typing it.
Here is the answer to the question even though it won't fix anything.
