Can't turn off my ignition.

2009 HHR SS. Automatic. 63000 miles.
My ignition key is stuck in the on position.
It will not turn to to off position. It will turn to the start position.
I have to disconnect the battery to turn off the engine.

I have not had the ignition recall done.
Is this part of that recall, or is it something else?

Not specifically - but it will be fixed by the recall.

This speaks well for getting the recalls done asap.

Tomorrow, do not pass go, do not collect $200.00, go on over to your local Chevy dealership, it’s very dangerous driving your HHR like that.

I found the information about the square panel under the steering column and tried releasing the key that way. No luck.

The dealer ordered the parts for the recalls and will have them by Friday.

Is this also the shifter interlock problem?

Sure sounds like it's a possible.

Did they order that part also?

They should have if you totally explained your problem.

Hopefully they might have a shifter in stock. My dealer did.

The New one worked much better then the Original.

They did not order the shifter mechanism.

I tried to find the key release switch under the column with my finger and could not find anything to push.

I got under the steering column and looked at the release switch and it was already in.
It will not release with or without the battery connected so this will not fix my problem.

Bad safety solenoid switch?

I'll take it to the dealer Friday and maybe they will fix it under tsb 14632b.
