That won't work with the stock nubs. Also good luck on getting a wire in the window. The glass is in a deep channel.

Hope you're not speaking from experience.

I've used rock before. Not on the HHR, but another Chevy. Too far out in the country and no cell reception for anything else. AND I temporally saved my pride.

Beagle84,

Get your proof of ownership (title or state registration) your picture ID and go to a chevy dealer and they will cut you a key. Breaking into an HHR will only cause damage to something else.

After you get the new key open the door and get your battery issue fixed.

After you have restored power you will need to program the new key.

Put your good (master) key into the ignition. Turn it to RUN. Do Not Start the vehicle. Turn it off. Pull the key out of the ignition. Put the new key into the ignition. Turn the ignition to RUN. Turn it Off. Pull out the key. Put it back in and it will be programmed to start the vehicle.

If you are going to replace the battery you will need to crawl to the back of the inside of your HHR, remove the small cover at the bottom of the plastic panel on the liftgate and you will be able to manually open the liftgate.

Good luck and may the force be with you.

Or look at this thread starting at post #15 to open the rear hatch:
https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-tutorial-library-21/how-liftgate-emergency-switch-22192/

Very easy, just requires another battery.

Agree with that. I would just use my battery jump box at the engine compartment to open one, but not everyone has one of those and people tend to pop fuses if they don't know how to properly hook up jumper cables in the engine compartment.

i broke into my own car once before(locked the door with my keys on the seat while vacuuming). you can pry the the top of the door back towards yourself, which is a pain. you probably could use someones help with this but i did it alone. i took a metal hanger and straightened it out. then i bent one end into a small V or U shape. the lock knob is shape the right way to be able to grab it with the hanger and pull up... good luck with whatever method you choose

Of course I'm speaking from experience.... why do things the easy way, when you learn so much more by screwing up? The third raised ridge from the right on the inside lower part of the hatch pops out to reveal an access hole. You stick a long, flat blade screwdriver into the extreme lower left corner, and you fish until you hit the release lever. The door will delatch, but you have to make sure it's clearly open before releasing the pressure.
