Can't unlock 2006 HHR with a dead battery
i saw a video on youtube, young Asian guy, no voice, just captions, use a string, like fishing line, tie a drop loop in the middle of about a 3ft length, work it in behind the upper rear door frame. goes right in, no damage; work the drop loop over the knob, pull tight against the knob and lift. try it. works easily, no bending, prying.

Just to add, I have a 2006 and I can lock the doors using any option, FOB door switch or manual and have always been able to unlock the door using the key.
Be prepared
to turn off the alarm.
I don't think it's right that if you have the correct key that you can not unlock the door for any reason.

I cut into the electric unlock wires inside the car and mounted a simple momentary contact switch in a secret location under my car because my wife likes to lock the car with the keys inside a lot.
I started doing this with my '76 Buick. It was the first car I ever owned with electric door locks and it was the first car she would routinely do this on.
Since then I have installed a secret push button on all my cars with electric door locks.
Of course this will not work if your battery is dead.
