I have a 2006 HHR, is it normal for the car horn to beep softly when you open the drivers door using the key, when I start the car it goes off?

 

its normal. Not sure why..stupid feature if you ask me.

 

When you lock it, use the manual buttons on top of each door. I think on the 2006 using the power lock button by the handle will set the alarm, and make noise when unlocking with the key. This was fixed in later years by not setting the alarm with the power lock button.

 

@prod I have a 06 and my fob broke u have to use power door lock if u do if manually on each door the doors will be fine but the hatch would be unlocked he gonna have to buy a key fob and have it programmed or get used to pissing off ur neighbors at 6am every morning like me I call it the neighborhood wake up call lol they love me

 

On my 08 panel, if you use the power locks, the "delayed arm" is activated, that causes the horn to "chirp" when opened by the key. You can disable it thru the DIC and problem goes away

 

Yup, its all or nothing. No power locks if you dont want it beeping, have to unlock with key in door and lock with the manual lock knobs, keep the hatch locked. There are threads on here about fixing the fobs too, and they can be bought for $25 or so, then programmed at the dealer for a bit more.
