2009 Chevy HHR 2.2 liter cylinder I believe? Sorry, new to these endless car problems. Also, mechanic is friend of family so 100% trustworthy.

I still say it points to the camshaft actuator solenoids. Many of our readers here have replaced these parts and fixed their problem.

Do some Google searching for that code number and you'll see what I mean.

Also. We have a very in depth thread about replacing the actuators that was started by our moderator "whopper". It's a nice read of about 49 pages. Give this link a try: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-...13-14-a-28779/

Trustworthy, likely.

Knowledgeable and experienced with the HHR or more importantly the 2.2 Engine, less likely. That is why you came here to this forum.

The speculation in the last sentence in Post #3 is very likely to be correct. Many a person on this forum and mechanic has made the mistake between solenoids and sensors.

MODERATORS: Why is this still under RECALLS, it should be moved to another section.

"mechanic is friend of family so 100% trustworthy" - well he needs to brush up on his knowledge. If he has charged you $1400 so far and still not fixed it, you really need to get a new mechanic.

As others have already pointed out, the p0010 code point to the Camshaft Actuator SOLENOID, (not a sensor).

Moving this thread to the Problem section, as it has nothing to do with the recall previously done.

Family friend rate got raised? I hadn't heard that...

On another note, I would get a second opinion and do your research with the countless threads on this forum, surely there must be a couple that match your problem. Know what you're talking about so when you go to a Mech or the Family Friend again, they won't take you to the cleaner again.

A very simple and free thing to check is pull the spark plugs. Check to see if they have oil on them. This could be caused by a leak in the O rings that seal them from the valvetrain. The oil can foul the plugs causing a random misfire.

Sorry. Don't think that's relative to the OP's symptoms and the CEL trouble code she is reporting.

SOLENOID not sensor. Get a mechanic that can read OBD codes.

Well, the mechanic read the code just like anyone of us DIY dummies would. What he did not understand was that the sensor was detecting an abnormality elsewhere, it was not saying "I the sensor am bad, replace me".

If I recall properly, when I used a simple code reader, the code reader mentioned "sensor". When I used a mechanics professional troubleshooting tool, i.e. like a TECH II, it brought up more possibilities in the notes section.

So, many of the lesser code readers misdirect the user to the incorrect part to replace. Without the knowledge or experience much of what the codes say is meaningless to the ignorant. That is where a forum like this with "real" people experiences helps a lot.

Agreed!!! And the mechanic should be well aware of that already.

It's been pretty frustrating seeing how many people have had the P0010/11/13/14 codes misdiagnosed at the auto-parts stores and by their "mechanics".
