Car won’t start

Hey hey

I’ve been fighting this for a week now. Maybe I’m just dumb, but here goes.

SO I had the car not start. It has 270,000 km on it. I Had the girlfriend try to start it as I tapped it with a hammer.

boom. Fired.

ok, go get a new starter. Fixed right??? Nope. Started about 5-7 times. Then I took a drive, shut it off, then nothing. Not even a click.

ok... bump start it (5speed obviously) and got it to work.

After work, I tightened the nuts on the starter. And Boom fires up.

fires up 5-7 times, then nothing.

i took al the wires back off today, cleaned them as best I could...

all I am getting now is a click (assuming solenoid) and no crank. It’s currently on charge. I tried to start it after a couple hours on a 6 amp charge. I can’t see why the battery would be bad, or low either, and it’s only a few months old.

im going to let it charge overnight. But I’m really really thinking I have a bad new starter.

Any advice???

Semi new battery... Have you checked the battery cable connections for corrosion?

Loose ground wire at the transmission case just down to the right of the oil filter cap?
have you checked the underhood fuse box

The cable clamps are very easy to break, then you think they are tight. If you can twist them they are too loose.

tenfor. Played with them all. Seem tight. 🙂

It’s morning now, I’m gonna try to start it after a good 14 hours of charge at 6 amps. If it doesn’t go now, off to the parts store Tuesday!

thanks for all the help folks!!!

Use a VOM to check the battery voltage. A 50% discharged battery is about 12.4 volts, at 70F
