Car won’t start after replacing engine!!

I have a 2006 Chevy Malibu maxx and one day while driving the car just died out I had it towed to shop and was told my eingine was done for so I had them replace it and now they are saying the car won’t start and have no idea why ?!?! They say they might need to order a new key and have it programmed any suggestions on what is going on here ?

Maybe guys on a Malibu forum might be of more assistance?

I doubt a new key is going to help, though.

Let the shop deal with it - that's what you are paying them for. You do realize that this forum is for the HHR, nothing to do with Malibu.

Welcome to the site, the Max is similar to the HHR, but not really the same.
It can be the replacement engine is faulty, a loose or forgotten ground wire, but I agree it’s the shops responsiblity to address the problem especially if they supplied the replacement engine.

What did they say was wrong with the old engine exactly? Did they show you where it failed?

They key and the engine are not linked in any programming way as far as I know(I could be wrong), the key is linked to the computer/security.

I also agree, let them deal with it. They diagnosed it and charged you accordingly. If they misdiagnosed it, it's on them now. Don't pay them more. stand your ground, get a lawyer if need be.

Did you original engine run out of oil?
You had a shop change the engine and they don't know why it doesn't start?
