Well we've officially moved out of purgatory to h***. Finally heard back from the service advisor and it sucks. After extensive testing with the smoke machine, they found a very small crack on a nipple for the gas tank. 😥 it's on top of the tank. The only solution offered is replacing the whole gas tank. The estimate to do that is around $1000. I'm hoping our extended warranty will cover it!

I did some quick looking and couldn't even find the tank for sale easily. Is this even feasible to consider as a driveway diy project? Can the tank possibly be repaired instead of replaced?

This seriously sucks!

I have never tried repairing a plastic fuel tank but used ones should be readily available. My guess would be 100 to 200 dollar range. Here is a thread for replacing the fuel pump. It may help some.

I also want to consider any other maintenance things that may be worth doing , like the fuel filter, etc. Not sure if there's anything else prone to failure that would be worth doing at the same time.

Our car don't really have a fuel filter that it serviced like older cars. Ours uses a filter inside the tank on the fuel pump. A used tank should come with the fuel pump but who knows how many miles will be on it.

You could install a new pump with the used tank or transfer your pump to the replacement tank. It's depends on how much you want to spend.

Get them to give you a PDF of the gas tank from the parts department showing what they are talking about then post it here so we can get an idea. Sounds kinda fishy to me.

I concur with Donbrew, never heard of this issue, but anything is possible, and it should be covered under emissions warranty as it is part of the system.

I am guessing they are talking about one of those hoses or yellow nipples they are connected to. I have no idea how to cause those to fail, except for somebody has previously had the tank out. How the heck could they get up there to see smoke?
