I think you'll find most of your answers here: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/appearance-modifications-discussions-6/bowtie-painting-24788/. As far as the chrome goes, I suppose you could paint it too. But that's a matter of taste. I happen to like it.

Yeah, I could have maybe used the originals and painted those, but I didnt want to take the chance of them not resticking too good since the double sided tape was a mess once removed,it would have had to be scraped and cleaned.. Mine is black and it looks way better than the eyesore of a gold emblem from the factory.
You could always use Goo Gone, Sticker Shock, Goof Off, or something similar to remove the remaining double-sided tape.

how I did mine

I used a heat gun and one of those retrackable blade things. The BowTies came off really ez. I only cut in to the tape from one side and pried off with a little pressure and heat. It took me @ an hour to get the old tape off....but the new Bows are @ 85 bucks(front and rear) so I did 40 bucks for an hour...lol

I did 6 coats of rattle can black and 3 coats of clear, on the rear one I misted a little silver as my SS is silver then did the clear. And reapplied with 2 sided 3m tape. IMHO most of the name brands go crazy with the tape.
here are the pics, al be it not get quality(pics I mean), but I did paint the chrome parts of the rear, and I'm happy with how they look.....now to see if they stand up in the car wash......lol

So my question on the painting is this. What type of paint are you using? Is is just the basic automotive spray paint? Krylon Fusion Paint? Our Gold Emblem is not holding up to well. Never really cared for the bowtie on car like the one we have on the HHR. Been better just to leave the outline.

I tried the vinyl first. It looked okay, but not great, and the inner corners started to pull away after a couple days.

I ripped that off after a while and painted it. I first gave it some light sanding with very fine grit. I used standard grey primer, then custom matched spray paint, then clearcoat.
