Chirpping from Engine
Chirpping from Engine
I own a 2006 manual HHR LT that two weeks ago starting giving a chirping or clicking sound from under the hood .. no-one can pinpoint exactly what it is.
Sound is only heard at idle or 1500 RPM or less, as the engine speeds up sound is drowned out, or goes away. Sound is coming from the right side of the block, not the left side belts, and some days/times is non-existant and sometimes very loud, like at stop signals.
Any thoughts?? Already had the S-blet changed and it sounds like it's coming from elsewhere.

I had a similar issue on my previous 2.2 LT. They first changed the belt. Then they replaced the belt tensioner. After that, they found a loose bolt on the harmonic balancer. Finally, they changed the belt a second time and all was good.
Thank you everyone for your feedback.
What has me stumped is it will only happen when the car has been driven over 90km prior to that the chirping is not noticeable.
If i'm traveling at high speeds if i put the car into neturl once the rpm hit below 1500 you can here it. Put the car back in gear and away goes the noise.
come to a complete stop and the chipping goes away after a few seconds.

If you're looking for an answer from the thread starter, I doubt you'll get one. This thread died 12 years ago !
Now if you're trying to find a mysterious "chirping noise" from the same location as the OP, then check for a broken air filter housing bracket.
