I wasn't saying I could make it go into calibration mode. I was saying I could get it to move and if I get the same noise that shows me what it is. And I was not planning on changing any heat/AC settings while the noise was happening because that would prove nothing.

This morning I went out and got in the car... before starting, key off, I moved the AC/Heat direction control from dash/floor where it usually is to defrost/floor and set the temp control straight up, (half heat, half cool) fan is off. Started the car, heard the air door deflector thingy quietly move to it's new position (defrost vents)... No clicking noise. I shut off the car. Reset everything to where it was prior, restarted the car, heard air door move again quietly... no clicking. Shut off the car. Waited a minute or so and restarted the car without changing anything... No clicking.

Maybe I should have not changed anything at first but I was getting the idea that Don is saying I've got some malfunction with the vent control system trying to move... This doesn't seem to be the case.

Air door, directional controls heat/AC system seems to be operating as it should and doesn't seem to be making this noise I heard yesterday. I'll go out later when the temps are up and see what happens, take the car out and see if having it warmed up makes any difference. (Yesterday it did not make any noise on it's initial start either)

Well, then there is the "oak leaf stuck in the fan". No other moving parts on the passenger side that I am aware of.

If it was mine, I would remove the cabin air filter and reach inside the air duct below it for anything that got past the filter like donbrew said.

The whole cabin filter & duct cleaning happened last month... No new oak leaves hopefully for a few more months, but I can't count on the weather anymore. Could snow next week.

And... Being a firm believer in "Things don't just fix themselves" The car did not make that sound all day today under similar circumstances to yesterday... Except possibly planetary alignment.

So, now I'm driving a silently ticking time bomb. Great!
