Exclamation Clicking on Turns

I don't think I saw anything like this in you're tsb thread.

I'm getting a clicking sound when turning at low speeds. If I just turn the wheel back and forth it clicks about every time. I don't think it's the steering column. It sounds like it's at the steering rack or out closer to the wheels.

Possibilities: CV Joint, bushings or hub bearing.

I would guess a CV joint. They will click and make noise during a turn if they are worn or damaged.

I agree with the above 2 posts.......especially if you lowered your car. I heard GM, and a few others, has had trouble with CV joints on lowered vehicles. Something to do with a "radical" angle

It's not a constant clicking though. Like I said, if I turn the wheel back and forth when I'm completely stopped it will do it also. That's why I think it is steering related and not necessarily in the driveline.

Yes I am lowered, but my cv joints have less of an angle than most hhr's as they are close to level, whereas other hhr's are angled down.

What would the dealer do if I took it in?

It's not the angle GM designed it for, and so whether good or bad, they have every right to deny a warranty claim on it. However, you're not going to know how YOUR dealer handles it until you take it to them.

No doubts there. I don't plan on taking it to the dealer unless it turns out to be unrelated to something I changed.

I would try and take it in and see what happens.

Makes me think of driveline angles..when a driveshaft is "flat" it will rattle..think of a universal for a socket wrench..when you try to use it aligned with socket and ratchet it has a tendency to try to bend over from the radial torque..drivelines will do the same thing which amounts to accelerated wear.

That seems plausible, but the only thing that makes me think otherwise is the fact that it does it irregardless of speed. Also it does it only on the ground. I jacked it up to see what I could see and it wouldn't do it in the air. So I lowered it back down and had someone turn the wheel while I listened and I thought it sounded/felt like the swaybar link was popping. I had spare so I put it on, but it still makes the noise. I'm leaning towards my coilovers now since it doesn't seem like anyone else has had symptoms like this. I didn't have enough time to take them off so I'll have to check later.
