The clutch master cylinder can be replaced without removing the transmission and it is separate from the brake master cylinder.

The question is about the clutch slave cylinder that pushes on the pressure plate to release the clutch. Most of today's vehicles use one that mounts on the transmission input shaft.

Yes agreed, I don't have a standard shift HHR, but I do think the Slave Cylinder IS inside the bellhousing connected to the throw-out bearing.

You sure about separate Master cylinders ? & Of course master cylinder is mounted on the firewall, so has no bearing on the Slave Cylinder location..

The TOB and slave cylinder as you guys are calling it, is one unit between the transmission and pressure plate. I thought you were referring to the clutch master cylinder as the slave cylinder.

Misunderstanding on my part.

Thanks, (edit): But that is incorrect.

ie: The Master cylinder always tells the slave cylinder(s) what to do..

Don't want to beat this to death but I did try the 1st to 5th gear test and the clutch did slip. I don't drive this car normally but I did notice the clutch grabbed right at the top of the clutch pedal travel, I mean like an inch from the top. The manual says that the clutch is self adjusting but does description of pedal travel I gave help in solving my problem, Thanks

What else would happen? I also don't see why you would do that or where it was recommended in this thread?

Just take it to a dealer or shop you trust and move on.

Yes it's self adjusting, when it bites out near the top, your clutch is about worn out.
