My hhr has started throwing code p0016, Camshaft Position A - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1). I do have a 2nd car but was wondering should I keep driving it? Is it serious, I guess what can it cause is what I mean. I'll probably take to my dealer since I should still have a warranty with them.

 

Welcome - if you used the search engine at the upper top right of the page here, and looked for p0016, you would find it is indicating possible doom for the engine due to the timing chain getting sloppy/loose/skipped a tooth.

Continuing to drive it/run it as the member did in the above thread can result in a totally thrashed motor. It's best to have it towed to your repair shop.

Mentioning what year, model, engine and mileage would also help analysing the situation.

 

Ok that's what I wanted to know. It started throwing earlier today and I cleared it out just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. When I started it again it came back on! I will drive my 2nd car. Thanks for the info!

10 years/100,000 miles whichever comes first on the drive train warranty. That is usually from the date of the first title; so if it was bought new after 2008 and under 100,000 miles you might be under warranty.

 

Well I do hope it's covered! I'll find out either way Monday. I'll talk to the service advisor that I work with and trust the most. I will definately let everyone know. Thanks for the advice!

 

Don. If you're talking about the factory warranty, it's 5 years/100,000 miles on the power train. There aren't any HHR's that are still covered by the GM factory warranty.
If the OP has a warranty with an independent company, then they might be covered. Will depend on what type warranty they paid for.

If it is an extended warranty you don't have to go to a dealer.

 

 

The reason I say warranty is because the dealer has a limited lifetime warranty on all their cars, new and used. McCluskey of Ohio in the Cincinnati area. If it's covered I'll only have to pay $200. If not I'll decide where to fix etc. I talked to a guy who mentioned that it could be timing, I hope he's right because that is covered by the warranty.
