I have 2006 HHR that the engine light comes on and then within 100 mile it gies off is there a history of false codes on these?

 

Welcome! no history of false codes that I know of....If it went off on its own, its probably nothing major...but i would still get the code read at an autoparts store

 

I'd get it read to see if has any stored codes. As someone with an 06 that recently saw the CEL for the first time in mine, if it has a code, get the issue corrected. It could have been a random misfire, possible sign of something on it's way out.

 

The cel will clear the light if it is an intermittant condition, and the incident that triggered the CEL does not reoccur after a certain number of drive cycles. However, the codes will be stored.

 

my 06 would do that with the light when a piece of the rubber gasket was stuck in the thermostat it was warming up at a different time then the computer thought it should. so depending on where that piece of rubber was when the thermostat closed would turn the light on or off.
