Cooling system issues

Question. I just bought a new AC Delco thermostat for my car (2007 HHR 2.2l) it did not come with an o-ring as I saw mentioned in other threads but there does appear to be a rubber seal around the thermostat itself. Do I need to get an o-ring or does that rubber seal take it's place? Is any other type of sealant needed? Thanks in advance for any help.

If you pull on that rubber it will come off the stat. That is the O-ring.

We say O-ring for convenience. it is a rubber grommet that goes around the outside and seals the housing. The other t-stats have one on the valve part, it tends to fall partially off and blocks the valve open.
