What really irks me is the bowtie emblems. The one on my tailgate was replaced twice. This is not just an HHR issue. The entire Chevrolet line has crappy emblems. When a company doesn't take enough pride in it's product to build a decent symbol to represent the company, how much pride will they put into the rest of the vehicle?

Do you feel the shift lever move when the trans kicks out of gear? Sounds like the gear is not fully engaging in the first place - could be a linkage problem. I have a 2007 LS with the 5-speed manual trans - I was having grinding problems when downshifting into 2nd gear on an intermittent basis recently. For some reason, this problem seems to have gone away. Could be that there is something peculiar about the design of 2nd gear in the Getrag transmissions. Please let the forum know what you find out.

I painted mine black, because I delaminated them with the power washer. ****ty design.

Dear sleeper,

Thank you. I guess, in a round about way, I proved that I am not a robot. LOL

I will be the first to admit that I am human and I do make mistakes. I apologize for my error, but I wanted more information in hopes that I might be able to exhaust my resources and wanted to know when the last time was that the vehicle was into the dealership for this.

I hope that you are having an amazing week!!

Sincerely,
Michelle, Chevrolet Customer Service

Did your transmission LOOK new? That would be where I'd start... if it says they replaced the transmission, and they didn't then they are defrauding GM. I have had numerous manual trans vehicles and NEVER EVER have I destroyed a gear-in fact, I've had clutches last 160,000 miles before I sold the car, and as far as I know, they were still in place.

Do your doors have this caulk-type stuff in the seams?

I never went under the car to check... Haven't been under the car at all, for that matter. I will be though, when I get it back.

No, no seam sealer. The service writer told me to tell him everything that I had an issue with, they'd fix it up. I named the doors, and a front end clunk, as well as the trans. He said I have various warranties on the car that cover all that stuff.

Right now, I'm going to exhaust my resources to find some beer, and enjoy the rest of the evening.

Interesting, when mine was new, it was quite a problem going into second, probably about half the time. I thought maybe it was just a new tight issue, and in fact it did get much better with some miles on it. Now its more temperature related, when its cold, it will sometimes not want to go into second, doesn't grind, just won't go. Its really intermittant, and when it works, its very smooth and easy to shift. Maybe there is something weird in the design of second gear in the Getrags.

UPDATE:

I was just digging through some paperwork for my car, and found a recent Jiffy Lube receipt, "noticed a little oil weeping between the casings of the trans" was in the notes section. I wonder if that could have been from the previous "replacements;" and possibly leaked enough oil out to cause the gears to be dry.

Still no call from the dealer, but my car is inside.
